The little prince is officially an adult!
Earlier this week, the Norwegian court shared a brand new portrait photo of their almost-year-old Prince Sverre Magnus, and today the time has come: the young prince is officially an adult! High time for a look back!
Adult prince
As the second child of Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit, Sverre does not have to prepare for a future as a monarch. “It is Ingrid who will take over the role,” fathers summarized earlier this year. That is why the young prince can do his own thing in the coming years. And we now know that Sverre Magnus is not afraid to deviate from the beaten track and break with protocols.
Because well, this is what most people know the young man for:
Not very regal, such a dab on the palace balcony. Anyway: we know that little princes are sometimes full of special tricks.
From the very beginning, Sverre had a clear opinion of his own. Because go through that whole baptism calmly? He didn’t feel like doing that:
However, posing sweetly by the Christmas tree on mom’s arm went a lot better at the end of the following year.
And let’s be honest: also that nice wave to the crowd…

…it turned out completely fine.
And that, of course, brings us to that regal snapshot at the top of this article, which was released by the Norwegian court earlier this week. Besides this photo and a festive lunch, there are no major galas or royal parties planned for the young adult royal. This afternoon there will be a birthday lunch with the family and some representatives of Norwegian youth organizations, but that cannot of course be compared to the gala party that celebrated the eighteenth birthday of his sister, Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
No throne
By the way, it would not have made much difference if Sverre Magnus would have had a clear place in the succession to the throne. That’s the way it is: until the early 1990s, male heirs had priority in the succession to the throne. This was then abolished for the next generation of royals, meaning that Prince Haakon was still in line for the throne ahead of Princess Märtha Louise, but sister Ingrid Alexandra did not have to make way for her younger brother.
And hey: a role as monarch is not everything, of course – and we estimate that the prince would have little interest in all the royal rules as heir to the throne. In any case, we are very curious to see what Sverre Magnus will show in the coming years, but for now we have to say: more gratuler med days, your highness!
