This indicates that you are using the wrong skincare products

Recognizable?

There are tons of skincare products on the market, so it is difficult to know what is best for your skin. Only an expert can tell you that, but we can share when you know that they are not the right products for you.

Your skin is dry and flaky

Are you using the wrong products? This can then aggravate an existing skin problem, says beautician Carolyn Holdsworth. “If your skin already feels dry and tight, too many acidic care products can make it worse,” she tells New Beauty. The skin barrier is then stripped of natural oils. Dermatologist Debra Jaliman recommends never using too many acids. “Never combine alpha hydroxy acids with salicylic acids and retinol.”

You have a rash

You can experience a rash for various reasons. Although it could be bad luck, it could also be a sign that your skin is allergic to certain products you use. “Rashes can be caused by preservatives, fragrances or acrylates in cosmetic products,” says dermatologist Tsippora Sainhouse. She recommends seeing a dermatologist to rule out allergies to certain products.

Do you want to get rid of the result as quickly as possible? Then, according to Holdsworth, it is best to use hypoallergenic products until the rash has disappeared. “Also, try not to scratch if it itches and don’t scrub until it’s healed.”

You suddenly have a lot of pimples

We all have a pimple sometimes. An outbreak, on the other hand, is often caused by something else. It could be because you have been eating very unhealthy food, but it can also be because you are using the wrong products. Is your skin often free of pimples, but does that change when you use a new product? Then, according to Holdsworth, that is often the culprit. Although it may sometimes take some time for your skin to get used to the new product. “Give the product two to three weeks to get used to it, breakouts happen when you just use a new product,” says beautician Heather Wilson.

Your skin is red, dry and blotchy

Does your skin become red or dry after using a new product? Then this indicates irritation, according to dermatologist Tina Alster. “When the skin is inflamed, this can lead to unwanted spots on the face, which are often difficult to get rid of,” she says.

Your skin is oilier than normal

Oily skin is not abnormal. It is strange if you suddenly get oily skin, while you never had it before. The formula of your skincare products could be to blame. This happens, for example, when you use a product that is too aggressive. Our skin contains a natural oil layer that serves as a protective barrier, says Rachel Liverman, CEO of skin care salon Glowbar. Do you use aggressive cleaners? Then you can remove that so-called stratum corneum layer. This immediately puts the skin into recovery mode. “Your oil glands will then produce more oil to compensate for the dryness.”
