This city will host the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest
You can already book your hotel if you want to be there. The organization of the song festival has announced in which city in Switzerland the big festival will take place in 2025. And that is in… Basel! Put 13, 15 and 17 May in your agenda, because these are the dates for next year. All of Europe (and Australia) will be in commotion for a whole week, because who oh who will win this time?
Switzerland as host country
It is the first time since 1989 that the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Switzerland. In May, all delegations will travel to Basel and give the performance of their lives. Who will walk away with the most douze points in 2025? And more importantly: will the Netherlands participate again? Or will we stay home after this year’s fiasco?
Joost Klein disqualified
During this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the whole of the Netherlands had high hopes for participant Joost Klein. With his song Europapa he became extremely popular. Not only in the Netherlands, but especially in other European countries. Joost had a great chance to end up high in the list, but because of the well-known ‘incident’ he was disqualified.
Research
An investigation was started into what exactly happened during that incident and that investigation took an awfully long time. Fortunately, we got good news in mid-August! The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) announced that they have closed the case due to lack of evidence. That means no trial for Joost.
According to the Swedish Public Prosecution Service, the investigation revealed that Joost made a quick movement that accidentally hit the camera. Because of this quick action, the stories of Joost and the camerawoman differ and it is not possible to determine what exactly happened. The public prosecutor, Fredrik Jönsson, states: “Today the investigation is closed because it cannot be proven that the act caused real fear and that this was the intention of the man.”
What now for Joost and the Netherlands?
Now that the investigation has been stopped, Joost can finally focus on his music and fans again. We hope to hear from him again soon and who knows, he might just be back on the Eurovision Song Contest stage next year! It was previously stated that Joost is welcome again next year.
