The new royal of the month: Princess Catherine

This month we choose a very famous Royal of the month: Princess Catherine, who has been able to call herself Princess of Wales for a year now. We regularly see her on this website or in the media. But how do we describe her style?

Let’s start at the beginning. William and Kate both studied at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. They met each other quite often, because they both chose art history. At first they just became friends. However, during the second semester, love came into play. It reportedly started after Kate took part in a charity fashion show. William began to see Kate differently. Together with two friends, they moved to a house off campus. After a while their relationship started there. They were spotted together in March 2004, when they were on holiday in Klosters.

Engagement

They were still quite young when their relationship started, so it took a while for the couple to take their relationship a step further. Kate Middleton was now called Waity Kaity. In 2007, their relationship ended temporarily, but luckily they reunited. In October 2010, Prince William proposed to Kate. Their engagement was announced three weeks later. Everyone noticed that Prince William had given his mother’s ring to Kate. As an engagement dress, Kate wore a dark blue dress from Issa. As a side note, the company couldn’t handle the high demand for Copy Kates and unfortunately eventually went bankrupt.

Wedding dress and diadem

Prince William and Kate married on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. For her wedding to Britain’s Prince William, Kate Middleton chose a wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton. Sarah Burton is (still) the creative director of the British fashion label Alexander McQueen. Kate was already a big fan of Alexander McQueen at the time, and felt that she could have a more traditional dress designed here, which still had a modern look. The lace on the wedding dress is special. It was made at the Royal School of Crafts. Various symbols are depicted on the lace, such as roses, thistles, four-leaf clovers and daffodils. These are the national emblems of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales respectively. The veil also features embroidered flowers. The veil was held in place by the Cartier Halo tiara. This is a diamond tiara with wave motifs, which was designed by Cartier. The Queen Mum received this as a gift from her husband, just before they became king and queen. The late Queen Elizabeth received the tiara from her parents for her 18th birthday.

Did you know that Catherine chose a different Alexander McQueen wedding gown for the reception?

Comparison Diana

Since the beginning of her marriage, or perhaps even before that, Catherine’s style has been compared to that of the late Princess Diana. Perhaps logically, Diana was loved by the British people. But at the same time, a lot happened at that time. Catherine, on the other hand, is pretty much above reproach. A pretty stable factor. As far as we are concerned, she does not have to compete with Princess Diana or Queen Elizabeth. Just let her remain herself.

Stylist

She cannot be called completely stylish. When the Queen reportedly wanted Catherine to dress more formally, with longer dresses and a more mature appearance, the Duchess involved Natasha Archer in her styling. To show the difference, I will first show some images from before the transformation.

With the help of Archer, Catherine’s clothing style became a conservative, classic mix, always with a touch of elegance. Plain wool coats in particular were often on the menu.

Much of the fashion is of British design, and she does not shy away from a certain symbolism. For example, she always wears green on St. Patrick’s Day.

In recent months, the princess has taken a new fashion path, with trouser suits, trouser suits and more trouser suits.

accessories

It characterizes Catherine: the choice of hairbands and slanted saucer hats. But from time to time she also opts for a classic hat a la Mary Poppins.

Around 2013, the then Duchess of Cambridge put LK Bennett’s beige pumps on the map. Nothing as practical as that beige pump, which goes with so many outfits.

Catherine’s choice of jewelry is modest. Because her jewelry is often quite classic, it can last for years.

P.S. a blog is coming about the princess’s highlights and misses. Do you have a suggestion? Then send it in via [email protected]? A link to a Pinterest photo helps me find the right outfit. Thank you!
