See: Norwegian court shares new portraits of the crown prince couple

Surprise!

Surprise! Just in time for the weekend, the Norske Kongehuset has just unveiled a series of beautiful portraits of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit in full regalia.

Royal successors

A royal surprise from Norway today! The Norwegian court shared a set of new official portraits of the crown prince couple, Haakon and Mette-Marit, via social media.

Or well…new one? The court shares via their website that the snapshots were taken last year in the Royal Palace, and they had also shared some of them before. Anyway. What do those new portraits look like? Watch!

Glamorous snapshots

A total of five ‘new’ photos of the crown princely couple have been revealed: two photos of the couple together, two photos of Haakon alone and one solo photo of Mette. Apparently there was time for a wardrobe change during the shoot, because the crown princess appears in the images in two different dresses.

For example, in the snapshots with her husband she wears a truly beautiful red dress with statement sleeves by designer Peter Dundas. From the beautiful red color to the fairytale embroidery: we are fans!

She combined the dress with the subtle daisy tiara, which she also wore on her wedding day. A sweet nod to her husband!

In her solo portrait, Her Highness has exchanged her red gown for a light, gray-blue one.

We are not really enthusiastic about this look, which does little for the princess in terms of silhouette. However, the icy shade of the dress does look beautiful on her, we cannot deny that. MM also carries her mother-in-law with her in the diadem: here Queen Sonja’s amethyst diadem adorns the head of the crown princess. Love it!

Bigger role

The snapshots were said to have been taken last year for the occasion of Prince Haakon’s birthday, but it is not surprising that the court is now releasing them as official images of the crown prince couple.

Earlier this year, the Norwegian royal family announced that King Harald, after all kinds of health problems and an emergency operation on his heart, is taking a step back. He is still on the throne – and intends to remain there until his death, as he has repeatedly made clear – and is the head of state of Norway, but Harald is simply taking on fewer tasks. This means that Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit will be in the spotlight even more often. And well, you better make sure you have a bunch of regal portraits ready to go!
