“I have two very nice children and a very nice husband, but I didn’t feel that anymore,” she reveals.
Real Gooische Mother Leslie Keijzer is very open about her past in the latest episode of Real Gooische Mothers. She has had postpartum depression, and she has now written a book about this part of her life.
New season Real Gooische Mothers
In Echte Gooische Moeders we follow the adventures of Florine, Pauline, Bo, Kimberly and Leslie. We see the beautiful sides of their lives with many funny moments, but also the setbacks they face. In conversation with Grazia, one of the ladies recently gave a glimpse of the new season. “Each of us has our own storyline,” Bo revealed. “I am very busy preparing for my wedding. (…) The other mothers are busy with their own personal things. Kimberly’s desire to have children is still present, which is why she takes the viewer through her fertility journey. Leslie has struggled with depression and is coming out with a book about it.”
Depression
Leslie recently announced via Instagram that she is taking antidepressants and is writing a book about it. In the most recent episode of Echte Gooische Moeders she tells us more. “What I find most difficult is that at one point I was so depressed that I would rather be dead than be with my children,” she says to the camera. “I find that very difficult, because I have two very nice children and a very nice husband, but I no longer felt that.” She could no longer even take her children to school.
The Gooische Mother looks back at the ‘most beautiful moment’ for her, when it turned out that the medicines were doing their job. “That I felt that things were getting better and that I had to laugh very hard and Goof really looked at me like: wow, you’re smiling, I’m proud,” she says, beaming. “Then I thought: yes, that’s a shame, that it hasn’t happened for so long.”
She describes taking antidepressants as her ‘last resort’. “I don’t want people to think that they have to take a pill and things will get better, but that is the case for me,” she says. “I would never say to someone: ‘You have to do this, also take antidepressants’, but for me this was a last resort and it has made me completely happy again. But this will be different for everyone and they should talk to their own doctor about it,” she emphasizes.
Brand new book
And now the mother has written a book about it. She hopes her story Mama cries louder will help other mothers. She says she receives a lot of messages from like-minded women. “But especially the people around it, that there will be more acceptance and that more people will understand it,” she explains.
