Princess Stephanie speaks out about close family ties

“It just keeps getting better!” the princess revealed in a rare interview.

To call Princess Stéphanie’s love life an absolute rollercoaster is an understatement. The Monegasque princess is now in calmer waters, and she is completely happy with her now adult offspring. In an interview with the French magazine Gala, she gives a glimpse of her bond with son Louis, and daughters Pauline and Camille.

Rebellious princess

As the daughter of Princess Grace Kelly, little Stéphanie had the spotlight on her from a young age, which is of course not easy. Add to this the tragic loss of her mother in a car accident, and you have the recipe for a rebellious young lady.

She worked as a model, released several singles, and dated a series of men who did not all meet with the approval of her father Prince Rainier. She had son Louis and daughter Pauline with bodyguard Daniel Ducruet, and a few years later daughter Camille followed after a fling with her head of security, Jean Raymond Gottlieb. In 2001, the princess literally left with her three children in a circus caravan when she lost her heart to elephant trainer Franco Knie. A few years later, she married Adans Lopez Peres, another member of this circus troupe, but after a year this relationship also ended.

Meanwhile, Steph’s love life has seemingly been on the back burner for about two decades. Instead, the princess has devoted her heart and soul to raising her darlings, doing charity work around circuses and HIV/AIDS, and supporting her brother in royal duties where necessary.

Close-knit family

It is clear that the family around the princess has been through a lot, and in conversation with the French magazine Gala, the princess discusses the bond with her offspring. “I am just a mother, who has tried to set a good example, and raise them to be the best adults they can possibly be,” she shares.

“I think I showed them that it is important to care for others, to be generous, and to listen,” the princess continued, explaining that she took her offspring on hospital visits from an early age – so they were instilled with their generous natures from an early age.

The highness also reflects on the slowly blossoming careers of her offspring. For example, she speaks so highly of daughter Pauline’s eco-friendly fashion label, Alter Designs. Earlier this summer, Steph even posed in a cool bikini top next to her daughter to promote this clothing line.

Her highness is also very close to her daughter Camille Gottlieb, she reveals. In fact, the duo still live together, and they are happy with it!

Proud grandma

Now that son Louis is married to his great love Marie and they are expecting their second child after daughter Victoire, Stéphanie is over the moon. She can’t wait for the arrival of their second offspring: “I think I’ll look after Victoire with the arrival of the new baby and afterwards. I’m really looking forward to that!”

“It’s magical,” she continues about her role as a grandmother. “I love big family gatherings where we all come together. I’ve got that going on with my kids. We’re very close. We’ve created our own little cocoon and it’s growing. And you know what? That makes it even better!”

Although she is now a grandmother and her sixtieth birthday is fast approaching, Steph is not at all bothered by her age. “Age is in the heart, in the head. It is certainly not a number on a passport,” says Son Altesse Sérénissime. And we can only agree!
