Fortunately, this form is easy to treat.
Leontine Ruiters recently started a podcast with friend Lonneke Nooteboom. They discuss all kinds of topics every week and in the most recent episode Leontine unfortunately came with less pleasant news: she has a form of skin cancer.
Candid podcast
Lonneke and Leontine have been friends for many years. And of course friends know each other inside and out and laugh like crazy. The two ladies recently started sharing that conviviality with us through the podcast Lon & Leo. However, more serious matters are also discussed in the most recent episode. Leontine appears to have been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer.
Skin cancer
What Leontine has is also called basal cell carcinoma: a malignant spot on the skin that grows slowly and fortunately rarely spreads. “It is the most common form of skin cancer, but it is easily treatable,” she says.
Leontine went to the doctor with the spot and calls the skin cancer a “sun spot”, because according to her the shape usually develops on places on the skin that have been in the sun a lot. “It’s summer now, of course, so I can’t do anything with it now. But I have to apply chemo cream there, otherwise it will get bigger,” says Leontine.
Preventive
Following the diagnosis, Leontine also had the moles on her back examined by a dermatologist. “Those turned out to be age spots. Fortunately I was able to have it lasered away. They are now coming back very lightly because it is summer.” Another extra motivation to apply good sunscreen these days!
