Shortly before the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, a new documentary has been announced about her fatal accident. The three-part series will delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the Princess of Wales’ death through extensive research and new interviews with witnesses.
August 31, 1997 is a day that is etched in the memory of many, and especially so for the British royal family. It is the day that Princess Diana died after a car crash in a Paris tunnel. An upcoming documentary hopes to shed even more light on the tragedy, with new interviews and unique sources.
Who Killed Diana?
American news site Deadline announces that a three-part series about Diana is in the making, in collaboration with the company Empress Films, which is also responsible for Netflix documentaries Depp vs. Heard and The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe. The docuseries will be called Who Killed Diana?.
In this series, a number of unique interviews will be held with key people involved. With this, the makers hope to shed new light on all the events surrounding the death.
Empress Films also produced the docuseries Who Killed Jill Dando?, which focuses on the mysterious murder of English newsreader Jill Dando. The series about Diana is therefore the next in this series, in which the deaths of well-known figures are further investigated. “This new franchise will not only revisit the deaths of famous figures, but will also actively advance the story with new voices and fresh insights into fascinating and complex details,” says Jon Adler of EverWonder, the company with which Empress Films is working on the production.
The death of Diana
Diana’s death on August 31, 1997 shocked the world. Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997 after a car crash in Paris. Her driver, Henri Paul, was reportedly speeding due to paparazzi chases and lost control of the car, causing it to crash into a pillar in the middle of the Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Diana, her partner Dodi Fayed, and the driver were killed. The only survivor of the crash was bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, who was seriously injured.
There is no word yet on the release date of the new docuseries Who Killed Diana?. It is also unclear whether it will be released on Netflix or another streaming service, just like Empress Films’ other documentaries.
