We know that fruit is healthy, but did you know that kiwis also make you happy? We explain why.
Kiwi
We are all convinced that fruit is healthy, but we don’t yet fully know why that is. What we do know is that kiwi drives away your bad mood. A study from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom concludes that eating a kiwi will quickly make you happier. There is one point of attention: this study was partly sponsored by a Kiwi brand.
Hairy on the outside, delicious on the inside
From the outside, the brown hairy fruits may not look very attractive, but inside they are made of fresh green or sweet yellow flesh. This also includes the added bonus that they are packed with delicious vitamins. One green is enough to get your daily amount of vitamin C, namely about 88 milligrams. With a yellow variant, a smoother and more expensive type, you quickly reach 150 milligrams of vitamin C. These vitamins are not only good for your body, but also for your emotions.
Happy vitamins
How can you become happier when you eat fruit? Well, it’s like this: vitamin C and a vitamin C deficiency affects your mood. Research from the Larestan University of Medical Sciences in Iran shows that people with depression or depressive symptoms in particular notice a difference in mood when they take vitamin C tablets. But the British researchers say that you can now also eat kiwis instead of tablets. The British scientists followed 150 subjects during a diet, dividing the group into three: one part ate two kiwis daily, another part took vitamin tablets, and the last part took a placebo. The group with the piece of fruit noticed an improvement in their mood after four days and pallor after fourteen. days at their peak. The group taking vitamin tablets only noticed that their mood improved slightly on day twelve, but they never reached a peak. The placebo group noticed nothing.
A kiwi a day…
We can conclude from the results that the special piece of fruit does improve your mood, and does so even better than taking vitamin tablets. But we have our doubts about whether this is entirely fair to compare. As you have read before, the British research was sponsored by a Kiwi brand, which is very obvious. In addition, the test group felt better because they ate fruit and therefore expected to feel better. But if we believe that green fruits really make us happier, it can’t hurt, right?
