The royals share a never-before-seen wedding portrait.
Yesterday marked exactly thirteen years since Prince William and Princess Kate tied the knot. In honor of this occasion, the Welsh treated us to a never-before-seen snapshot of their big day.
Anniversary
The beautiful royal wedding of William and Kate is still so fresh in our memories that it is hard to believe that it took place 13 years ago. But it is still true: on April 29, 2011, the then 28-year-old William and the 29-year-old Kate entered Westminster Abbey to say yes. Many other royals and celebrities were of course present at that ceremony, including Elton John and David Beckham. Our Willem-Alexander and Máxima were also present. Thirteen years have passed and William and Kate have three beautiful children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
New picture
To celebrate this special day, the Prince and Princess of Wales share a sweet snapshot of their wedding day on their Instagram. And that is quite a special example, because this photo has never been made public before. “13 years ago today!”, the caption reads.
In the black and white photo we see the happy couple posing radiantly. Kate is holding her wedding bouquet, which largely consists of lilies of the valley, Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite flower.

Outfits
You may not have noticed immediately because it is a black and white photo, but in this new portrait William is not wearing the red Irish Guards uniform that he also wore during the ceremony. He switched to the black suit of the Blues and Royals in the middle of the day. Kate, on the other hand, is still wearing her iconic Alexander McQueen wedding dress paired with her grandmother-in-law’s Cartier Halo Tiara.
Big day
From Kate’s beautiful dress to the guest list and the royal traditions they broke: it was all lavish and grand. However, not everything went smoothly on that big day. From a ring that was too small, causing cramped moments, to a photobomb during the balcony scene, a number of things still went wrong. But, let’s be honest: of course the Waleses can look back on a beautiful wedding. As any couple can attest, no wedding goes 100% to plan. But that doesn’t make the big day any less beautiful!
