Insta vs reality: this fitness influencer shows what goes on behind the scenes

Fitness influencers are supposed to inspire you, but they often give unrealistic images. For example, they regularly use photoshop. This influencer shows that not everything is what it seems.

Especially on the internet and social media, not everything is always what it seems. We don’t always look the same: sometimes we really try to look good, and sometimes we prefer to let ourselves go and choose comfort over appearance. Social media can be dangerous in this respect: we can quickly think that we are not good enough if we are not dressed at our best, or if we do not look like our favorite examples and idols. This woman tries to make it clear that appearances can be deceiving on social media, and tries to convince us that we need to get rid of the idea that we are not good enough.

Liv Livin Life

Olivia Nevill is a fitness influencer. Together with her 195,000+ followers on Instagram, she tries to help the world out of the social standards of the perfect picture. Her bio therefore states (translated into Dutch): ‘Your little safe space, redefining ‘fitness”. Her goal? To show her followers that their role models, such as influencers, use photoshop and otherwise know exactly how to pose for a photo. She shares fitness advice online, but also works hard to promote body positivity. She does not only post fitness content, but also things like ‘edited vs reality’, ‘prove not to believe everything on the internet’ and ‘bodies are meant to change’.

Comments

V=Her followers are grateful for the things Olivia shares on Instagram. For example, a follower responds under a video about photoshopping and video shopping: ‘Great that you expose this, it makes a lot of women feel insecure and worthless. You are beautiful anyway.’ Under another post by the fitness influencer, things like this are responded to: ‘I LOVE THIS + YOU! You are so beautiful, inspires me daily to just BREATHE and let my body exist!’ The followers also use Olivia’s account and the Instagram platform to share their findings with each other: ‘Health comes from habit. Not from shape. If you can maintain healthy habits, your body will take the shape that suits you best.’ In this way, Olivia not only inspires her followers, but she also creates a movement in which we can help each other.
