Harry speaks out publicly for the first time about Charles’ diagnosis

Could the British king’s diagnosis be a unifying element for the royal family?

After the positive news that King Charles had recovered well from his prostate surgery, HRH unfortunately also received less good news: he was diagnosed with cancer. Shortly after this was announced, his son Harry rushed to London to visit his father. He has now spoken publicly for the first time about his father’s cancer diagnosis during an interview with Good Morning America. The full interview will be shown on Friday evening.

Lightning visit

Although Charles has postponed all his public duties, he was spotted outside meeting Prince Harry last week. His youngest son flew in from the US after the news of his father’s cancer diagnosis. With relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the Windsors soured, Harry’s abrupt trip to London was seen by many royalty watchers as a possible step towards reconciliation. For example, The Spectator wrote that Charles would have personally ensured that he could inform his sons, brothers and sister before the news was made public.

Candid conversation

And now the Duke of Sussex himself has opened up about his father’s illness to Will Reeves, who follows him and his wife Meghan with a film crew during their visit to Canada. In this candid conversation, Harry said, among other things, that he is happy that he can be with his father relatively quickly, Hello! to report. “Look, I love my family,” the prince said. “The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go see him and spend some time with him, I’m grateful for that.” Could the British king’s diagnosis be a unifying element for the royal family?

Restored relationship

The prince kept to himself what exactly was discussed by father and son during Harry’s lightning visit to London. But when Reeves asked whether King Charles’ health could bring the two closer together again, Harry did not respond negatively. The prince sees the positive – no matter how sad the situation is -.

“In all these families I see on a daily basis the power of the family unit coming together. I think every disease, every condition brings families together.” By this, Harry refers to the participants of the Invictus Games, soldiers who became disabled due to or during their service, and who are so well supported by their families.
