A good night’s sleep is very important for all of us. In order to function properly during the day, we must of course be well rested. That’s why it’s so frustrating when you keep waking up during the night. Do you recognize this problem? This is how you can keep dreaming all night long.

Don’t drink too much before going to sleep

If you often wake up during the night because you need to urinate, it may be wise to drink less before you go to sleep. Staying hydrated is important, but it shouldn’t keep you awake. This may seem obvious, but it’s always smart to take a quick trip to the bathroom before crawling under your covers. This prevents you from having to visit the toilet in the middle of the night.

The same goes for food

You probably already know that what applies to drinking also applies to eating. We love a good late night snack, but consider your digestion and sleep schedule before opening your bag of chips.

Create an evening routine

A good way to get into the right mindset before going to sleep is to have an evening routine. Try to start your routine around the same time every night and go to sleep around the same time. This will help your body get used to it and make it easier for you to fall asleep and stay asleep. Make your evening routine relaxing. This is your self-care time.

Avoid your phone

Your phone lights up, and this light is not very good for your sleep. The hormones that your body needs to produce to get tired take longer due to your phone. This means you are less tired than you should be and you may experience sleeping problems. To prevent this, put your phone away an hour or at least half an hour before you go to sleep.

Keep your bedroom cool and dark

Comfort is very important for a good night’s sleep. If your bedroom isn’t the right temperature, you won’t sleep well. For example, we all know how difficult it can be to fall asleep during the scorching summers. But an ice cold room is not nice either. Keep your room cool. This way you don’t overheat, but you also don’t get too cold. Also make your room dark. This increases the chance that you will be able to sleep well.

Save coffee for the morning

Coffee is delicious and a great solution for when you need some extra energy. But caffeine can also work against you, for example if you want to sleep. The extra energy that coffee provides is now unwanted. Therefore, drink your oat cappu or latte in the morning or possibly at the beginning of the afternoon, but leave the coffee in the evening. Your night’s sleep will benefit enormously. Can’t you really miss your coffee? Then go for caffeine-free.

Don’t force yourself to sleep if you’re not tired

We all know the feeling: you have to get up early the next morning so you decide to go to sleep early. You force yourself to fall asleep but wake up constantly. This is not surprising, after all, you are not tired at all. We understand that you want to get enough hours of sleep, but unfortunately this is not the solution. Don’t force yourself to sleep when you’re not tired. Instead, read in bed until you feel like you’re getting tired.
