Now it’s official on social media too! The change of throne in the Danish royal family took place today: Queen Margrethe (83) sealed her son Frederik (55) as the new monarch with a signature. In the meantime, the new royal couple and their children have already appeared on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace. Now the royal family is sharing a photo and the first statement about the new ruler.
The Danish royal family shares a new portrait of Frederik on Instagram. He stands there in his uniform and with his scepter, his chest swollen proudly, in the castle. The photo was taken shortly before his proclamation. “Today, January 14, 2024, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II signed a declaration of abdication in the Council of State. This happened in the presence of the future king, the future heir to the throne, the government and the Secretary of State,” it says. This means that Frederik X is now the new monarch.
Numerous other houses have already registered for Frederik’s accession to the throne. “My wife joins me in sending you our best wishes on the day of your accession to the throne in the Kingdom of Denmark,” writes King Charles (75) online. “The King and Queen have warm memories of each of their meetings with the Queen. They wish King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark (51) all the best in their new roles,” congratulates the Belgian royal family.
