(…) The hopelessness of the animals is what breaks me even more.” This is also what officer Andrea tells Ewout. “The animals are just locked up, they don’t understand that they have to open a door,” she says. “I think that really sucks.”
Residents are logically not allowed to enter while the fire brigade is still busy. Something that Andrea would secretly have difficulty with if she were told this. As a cat owner, she knows well what it is like to have pets of her own. “I know it’s not wise,” she says. “But you know, yes… That animal is in your heart and you have it at home 24/7. I can feel this.”
