Peter Pannekoek, among others, was present.
Every now and then a special event is planned for our King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima: our royal couple will have lunch with so-called ‘Outliers’. These are all people who have been recognized for their exceptional achievements over the past period.
Having lunch
Of course, as a royal you chat with all kinds of special people. From fellow monarchs and heirs to the throne, to world stars and prominent politicians. But one of the most special occasions for our Oranje has to be the recurring Uitblinkerslunch.
During these special moments, the royal couple will dine with people who have been appointed Outstanding for a variety of reasons. Many top athletes have had lunch with the Royals in this way, several business people have been put in the spotlight, and celebrities and scientists sit next to each other at the table with the royals.
Guest list
Another grand lunch was on the agenda yesterday, with 25 extraordinary guests. The RVD writes: “The twenty-five guests have recently received a prize or other distinction for their achievements in various sectors such as art and culture, media, science, sports and business.”
A small selection from the guest list shows that there was indeed a huge variety of people present at the lunch. For example, comedian Peter Pannekoek was invited to dine with the royal couple after winning the Poelifinario, Mrs. Patiiha, Mrs. Posthumus and Mr. Uittenboogaard were invited after they had won the prize as Teacher of the Year 2023, and top athlete Laura Aarts was invited as world champion women’s water polo and the ‘best goalkeeper in the world’ will also be joining us.

In addition, we see some other famous faces in the snapshots, such as Mariana Aparicio, who won the Theo d’Or theater prize, and Eelco Smits who in turn was awarded the Louis d’Or.
Classic
For the occasion, our Willem-Alexander and Máxima appear in a set of outfits that are subtly coordinated – that salmon pink tie next to Máxima’s Natan dress is probably no coincidence. Sweet!
