“After just one year as farm owners, we have come to the hard ground of facts – the farm is not sustainable,” writes the 33-year-old in an Instagram post. The couple saw the only way to save their property in an irrigation system for corn cultivation. “It was a very big investment in which my husband not only put a lot of work, but also a lot of money,” summarizes Anna together. A rude awakening came a few days ago: the borehole only delivered a quarter of the original projection. “It hurt my soul to see my husband in this condition,” she complains.
If not the farm, at least the family is doing well. Gerald would put every penny into the farm and treat himself to nothing. “It makes me sad that his hard work is not recognized. But we as a family are doing well because I earn well,” he says Anna optimistic. “We’re healthy and we have each other – that’s the most important thing. But when it comes to the farm, we have no choice but to carry on and hope,” concludes the mother of two.
