This way you let your viewers shine even more during the holidays.
A neat make-up look never hurts, but during the holidays we like to go a little further. Good eye shadow is a must, but which colors suit your eye color best? Makeup artists Oscar Velasquez and Natalie Dresher give tips.
Blue eyes
If you are blessed with a pair of blue binoculars, then earth tones are the way to go. “Earthy tones such as bronze, copper and warm brown tones complement blue eyes beautifully,” says Velasquez. He recommends using eyeshadow in shades on the other side of the color wheel. With blue, these are colors such as orange, gold and peach and coral tones.
Brown eyes
If you have brown eyes à la Máxima, then purple is your color for the coming holidays. A shade that you would normally skip in your eyeshadow palette, but which looks incredibly beautiful on brown eyes. And what better time than the holidays to try this out? Make-up artist Dresher emphasizes that it is important that you choose a shade of purple that makes you feel good. So don’t immediately start with bright purple glitter eye shadow if you would rather start safely with a lavender shade first.
Green eyes
With green eyes, it is pink shades that accentuate your face best. “I like to use pink shades such as rose gold, pink and warm brown tones for my green-eyed clients,” says Dresher. Velasquez adds that “applying a slightly darker shade to the crease can create depth and make your eyes appear even more striking.”
Undertone
You can of course only determine the choice of an eye shadow color based on your eye color, but there are also other factors that influence which colors suit you best, such as the undertone of your skin. You can find this by looking at the veins on the inside of your forearm. If they have a blue or purple tint, you probably have a cool undertone, and cool colors usually look better. If your veins lean more towards green, then it is obvious that you have a warm undertone and warm colors look best on you. Although in the end it all comes down to what you like!
