Time to make another appointment?
A visit to the salon from time to time? We won’t say no to that! A nice moment of self-care, a lush scalp massage, and you walk out the door with a wonderfully fresh head of hair. However, sometimes with our busy schedules it is difficult to find an opening for a hairdresser visit. These five signals indicate that it is really high time!
1. You have a short haircut
Does your haircut not reach your shoulders? This also means that you have to go to the hairdresser more often. “People with short hair need to come back every four weeks to maintain the shape of their haircut,” says hairdresser Lauren Kunijo. “Hairstyles such as a bob are cut very precisely around your head shape, so if you do nothing for too long it can look strange.” People with longer hair, on the other hand, can easily wait eight to 10 weeks for their next haircut, Kunijo said.
2. You suffer from headaches
Believe it or not, headaches and migraine attacks can be a sign that you need a haircut. Salon owner and stylist Yvey Valcin explains: “People with thick and long hair need to go to the hairdresser more often, because the weight of their hair can cause headaches. By cutting it we can create layers, making it feel less heavy.” Good to know!
3. Your hair is thinning at the bottom
You may not even realize that you suffer from split ends. Therefore, pay extra attention when you put your hair in a braid. Do you notice that your braid is getting thinner towards the bottom? Then that is a sign that you will have to go to the hairdresser again soon. Healthy locks have approximately the same thickness at the bottom and top.
4. Brushing your hair is a task
“Damaged hair with split ends is more likely to tangle than healthy hair,” says celebrity hairstylist Annagjid Taylor. “Do you notice that you have more difficulty than usual brushing your hair? Then there is a good chance that you could use a haircut again.” Especially when you notice that conditioners and other products have no effect, it is time to go to the hairdresser.
5. The ends of your hair dry faster
In principle, your hair should dry evenly. If you notice that the ends of your hair dry in no time after a shower, that is not a good sign. It’s like this: when the ends of your hair become damaged, they become porous and can retain less moisture. A visit to the hairdresser is the best solution!
