Intense: King Charles has cancer

The diagnosis comes shortly after his surgery last month.

Last week there was good news for British King Charles III, when he was released from hospital after a short stay for prostate surgery. Now, however, the court has shared some serious news: the monarch has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

Operation

It must have been quite a shock for King Charles and his family. In January, the monarch underwent surgery for a benign enlarged prostate, and he seemed to be recovering well. After an extra night in hospital (three nights in total), Charles was allowed to return home and he was spotted out and about again this weekend with his wife Camilla for a visit to the church in Sandringham.

However, the British court has just announced that a particularly serious discovery was made during that procedure: the monarch was diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer

In an official statement, Buckingham Palace shared: “During the King’s recent hospital stay for a benign enlarged prostate, an isolated matter of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests diagnosed a form of cancer.”

“His Majesty today began a series of treatments, during which he has been advised by doctors to postpone his public duties. During this period, His Majesty will conduct state affairs and official paperwork as usual.”

The palace also takes the opportunity to emphasize how grateful Charles is for ‘the quick intervention’ by his medical staff. It can also be read that he is optimistic about the treatments.

Public

It is quite striking that Charles has once again chosen to be so open about his health. During his intervention in January, the court already stated that this was a conscious decision to create more awareness about prostate problems.

Again, the court writes: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to avoid speculation, and in the hope that this can support public understanding for everyone in the world dealing with cancer.”

Hopefully the treatments will work well and Charles will soon be back to his old self. Get well soon, your highness!
