‘I think that sense of injustice is being touched’
This week, Princess Laurentien is a guest in the podcast of the Ideële Reclame Foundation (SIRE). In it, the princess is particularly sensitive about her position and what drives her to help people.
Royal trend
While it used to be not done to publicly talk about your feelings as a royal, it now seems to be becoming a trend among the royals. In the Netherlands we may be the forerunner in this. We got to know Willem-Alexander a lot better in his podcast Through the Eyes of the King, Máxima regularly speaks about her feelings and concerns, and Eloise van Oranje now feels like a good friend to many.
Bright spots
Just like her daughter, Laurentien is not afraid to show her sensitive side to the Netherlands. Yesterday an episode of Lichtpuntjes, a podcast from the Ideële Reclame Foundation (SIRE), was set up to inspire people to think about what gives them hope.
Laurentien was a guest there and spoke candidly with Diana Matroos about being privileged. “I actually feel ashamed, perhaps deeply, when I think about the bad situations people grow up in or the things they experience,” the princess admitted. “Somehow I feel a bit ashamed. Maybe because I’m doing so well.”

When the conversation turns to people who have lost hope, Laurentien becomes emotional. “I think that feeling of injustice is touched and I was never very aware that this is apparently a deep core value of mine,” says the princess with tears in her eyes.
Mother-daughter learning moments
Laurentien previously said in conversation with Nouveau that she learns a lot from her daughter. “I find what Eloise experiences on Instagram and TikTok with negative reactions intense. But she always says with a straight face: ‘But Mommy, those people don’t know me at all.’ And then I think: Oh, I can look at the world that way too.”
