Blasphemy? Fans shocked by Lil Nas X's new single cover

Is Lil Nas X taking this too far? The rapper is known for his provocative nature. The sneakers he specially designed with a pentagram pendant, which he christened “Satan Sneakers,” caused a particularly stir in 2021. Apparently there was even a drop of human blood in the Nike sneaker. The controversy got so bad that the sports brand even filed a lawsuit. Now Nas is taking his music up a notch again – and is shocking fans with his new single cover.

On his Instagram page, Nas shares the artistic cover for his new song “J Christ”. In keeping with the title, the American lies on a cross with a yellow cloth tied around his hips. On the left and right, several extras bring the cross into an upright position. The scene is reminiscent of the biblical crucifixion and that is exactly what angers many users. “It’s so disrespectful to make fun of Christianity. Shame on you,” complains one user in the comments. While many even speak of blasphemy, there are fans who support Nas’ artistic freedom.

Regardless of the discussion about the cover, the video for “J Christ” marks a special moment in Nas’ career. Because for the clip he was allowed to sit alone in the director’s chair for the first time. And he also developed the story that he tells in the already controversial music video himself.
