It looks like Charles has to start working on his royal duties.
Of course we know that all royals work hard, but in the United Kingdom they like to turn it into a competition. Every year the Court Circular names one British royal as the most hard-working of the year and this time it is (may we roll some drums)… Princess Anne!
Most official acts
You would think that Princess Anne, now that she has reached the respectable age of 73, would take it easy with all the royal duties. But like a true royal, she continues to work. After all, retiring within the palace walls is not done. According to Court Circular, the Princess Royal has performed the most official acts as a working royal. A title with which Anne even beats her newly crowned brother. Well, someone has to do it, nun?
457 royal duties
The Court Circular has calculated exactly how many royal duties each working British royal has completed this year. For Anne this involved no fewer than 457 working visits. On average, royal duty called for the princess twelve to fourteen times a week. This makes her head and shoulders above all other British royals. For example, Princess Kate and Prince William made ‘only’ one to two working visits in 2023.
A modest second place goes to Charles. The new king has made 425 working visits to his name this year. Less than his sister, but can we immediately speak of a less hardworking royal? We wouldn’t dare, of course, but Dickie Arbiter, former spokesperson for the late Queen Elizabeth, also says that that conclusion cannot be drawn so quickly. “Much of what the king does is behind the scenes and in meetings and those moments are not included in the Court Circular,” he told The Telegraph.

Let’s go down the list: Prince Edward is number three this year, followed by Queen Camilla. Sophie from Edinburgh took fifth place. Princess Kate has not been spared: she made ‘only’ 128 working visits this year, which puts her somewhere at the bottom of the list. But let’s not forget that the princess is a mother of three young children. And that’s a lot of hard work, right?
