Roxy Dekker responds to hate comments with new song

Roxy Dekker is one of the most famous young Dutch artists of the moment. With songs like ‘Satisfyer’ and ‘Sugar Daddy’ she became a huge hit. Now the singer comes with a song that deals with the less pleasant side of her profession: hate reactions.

Industry Plant

Roxy Dekker posted a video on TikTok a few days ago in which she gives a small sneak peak of her new song. The song is called ‘Industry Plant’ and addresses the hateful reactions she receives on social media. The term industry plant refers to an artist who did not become popular organically, but who is pushed by the music industry in such a way that success is inevitable. Behind an industry plant is a lot of marketing and of course a large budget. This is something Roxy is accused of, and she addresses it in her new song. “Maybe I really am an industry plant. But you dance to my songs, so who fucking cares?,” she sings in the song. In the lyrics that could be heard in her TikTok, she also addresses the idea that she owes her fame to boyfriend Koen van Heest or to her father’s money. But as can be heard in the song, she doesn’t care that much.

Roxy Dekker or Bruno Mars

Besides the content of the song, there is also a lot to say about the production. The song is often compared to the song Finesse by Bruno Mars that was released in 2016. Via a TikTok, Roxy indicated that she understands the confusion, but that they are simply two songs within the same genre.

“Just like folk and house music are very similar, these two tunes are very similar because it’s just a genre. It’s called new jack swing. You can look it up. I think there are hundreds, thousands of songs that are similar.”

In addition to addressing the similar sound of the two songs, Roxy also confirmed on TikTok that Industry Plant will indeed be her next single. “A lot of people thought I was just doing it for fun on TikTok, but it’s definitely a teaser for the new single. Yeah, it’s different, a different vibe, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to do this forever.”

It is not yet known exactly when Roxy Dekker’s new single will be released.
