Remember the hit series Squid Game? This incredibly popular Netflix series was the talk of the town in 2021. The hype surrounding the series created a lot of trends but new seasons were not forthcoming, until now. Netflix has announced two new seasons. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
When is the new season of Squid Game coming out?
According to Netflix’s announcement, we will already get a new season at the end of this year. The Korean drama series will premiere on December 26 of this year. In addition, Netflix has announced that the show will get a third season that will be released in 2025. This will also be the last season of the show. Along with the announcement, Netflix shared a teaser trailer in which we already get a small preview of the new season.
What can we expect from the second season?
Since most of the characters from season one did not make it out of the games alive, not many familiar faces will return in the second season. However, the winner Seong Gi-hun will return in the second season. We will also see the return of the Frontman and the mysterious recruiter. Furthermore, a number of names of new cast members have already been announced, including K-pop star Yim Si-wan. According to the director of the series, the second season will pick up where it left off in the first season. The director of Squid Game told The Hollywood Reporter the following:
“I’ve seen many reactions from people about the show, but I don’t want to make season 2 as a response to those reactions. The philosophies I put in season 1 all naturally extend to season 2. Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next. There will naturally be a flow of events that will lead all the way to the end of the season. I can’t share any details yet, but you know that Seong Gi-hun has become a totally new person by the end of season 1, so season 2 is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”
So we can conclude that Squid Game will continue to tell the story of Gi-hun. What will his life be like after winning Squid Game? Will he ever compete again or will he try to stop the Frontman? We will have to find out in December.
