‘I will die for my wife.’
If you’re French Duijts asks how things are going, his answer is: “Work hard, earn little.” The 44-year-old singer has worked hard all his life, but has also learned that this can have a downside. He talks candidly to Glamial about the highs and lows of his career and his family life.
Family person
In conversation with Frans, one thing quickly becomes clear: family is of inestimable value to him. “I will die for my wife, but my three daughters are number one,” he says. Although he is on the road a lot due to his work, he still tries to do as much as possible with his children. “This varies from going on holiday together to watching a movie on the couch with something tasty. I am really a family person.”
Deep valley
At the moment, Frans is feeling good: his family is running as it should, and he feels like a ‘satisfied person’. However, it has not always been that way. “Fourteen or fifteen years ago I was at the top with my career, but not at the top myself,” he reveals. “I weighed 140 kilos clean, drank too much and was never home. I got way too carried away and was at every party and every TV broadcast. If you invited me to something, I always showed up. That resulted in me not being there for my family. I missed my children’s first five, four and three years. That was quite a bit.”
Monogamy
Fortunately, Frans and his wife Marloes also managed to get through these difficult periods together, and the couple is still happily married. When asked whether he has always been monogamous, the singer answers very firmly: “Yes. I chatter and I flirt, yes. I like that. But that’s it. I am monogamous, always have been.”
Yet this does not stop his female fans from sometimes sending him – somewhat special – messages via social media. “Coincidentally, this week I received a photo of a woman who had taken a photo with her breasts exposed through the reflection of her car window. That makes me laugh, but I also think: you know I’m married, right?” says Frans.
Charlize Theron
Frans may be a fan of monogamy, but he still has one ultimate celebrity crush for whom he would put that aside just once. He reveals: “I’ve always said to my wife: ‘If I get the chance to sleep with Charlize Theron, I will.’ She is such an incredibly beautiful woman. My wife has given me a free pass, in fact: she is participating, haha.”
