British King Charles was in a generous mood last week. The king has awarded no fewer than three awards to members of his family who mean a lot to his country. A sunny side to the difficult times the royal family is currently going through.
High distinction
The king gave the highest award to Princess Kate. She was appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honor. And that’s not wrong. This award honors her efforts in the fields of art and science, among other things, through her role as patron of several cultural institutions. Big names preceded her, such as Sir David Attenborough and Dame Judi Dench. The princess will probably be proud that her name now belongs on this list.
The king appointed his wife Queen Camilla as Grand Master of the Order of the Garter. This order of knighthood is the highest in the United Kingdom and one of the oldest in Europe. The title of grandmaster is a prestigious title that Prince Philip, Charles’ father, was allowed to hold for decades.
Finally, the king appointed his son Prince William as Grand Master of the Order of the Bath. This knighthood is the fourth in rank of the knighthoods of England. With this title, the future king follows in the footsteps of his father, who also held this title when he was still Prince of Wales. That will also mean a lot symbolically for both Charles and William.
Hard times
As we all know, the British royal family is living in difficult times. Both Princess Kate and King Charles have been diagnosed with cancer and are both currently undergoing treatment for it. Due to the disease, they stopped working and now focused on treating the disease.
Fortunately, the two seem to find support from each other in the difficult process they are going through. In addition, the bond between the princess and king has always been good, due to, among other things, common interests. Perhaps the awards will be a encouragement to everyone!
