Why you should use SPF every day, even without the sun

Where you used to only think about SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in your sunscreen during a day at the beach, it is increasingly common to include this in your daily skincare. Nowadays it is also more often found in day creams or foundations. And yes, it is even recommended to wear SPF every day, even in winter. But why is this so important?

It protects your skin against harmful radiation

The main reason to use SPF is to protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This radiation penetrates deep into the skin and is present all year round – even on cloudy days. You probably hear it often, but long-term exposure to these UVA and UVB rays also increases the risk of skin cancer. Using SPF significantly reduces this risk.

It reduces signs of aging

Maybe you remember it: the viral photo of the truck driver who had more sun exposure on one half of his face for 28 years due to work. A very visible result of sun damage.

It’s like this: UVA and UVB rays damage collagen, which keeps your skin firm, smooth and wrinkle-free. A shame, especially if you follow a skincare routine every day. And a bonus for mature skin: it has been scientifically proven that the use of SPF reduces wrinkles and pigment spots.

Incorporating SPF into your daily routine: how?

If you want to maintain the best quality of your skin, it is important to apply SPF daily. If you spend a lot of time indoors, an SPF 30 is fine, but if you spend a lot of time outside, we recommend that you choose an SPF 60 or higher. You can apply it before your skincare products, or after a moisturizer. Ideally you should reapply every two hours, in which case it’s useful to carry a travel-sized SPF with you in your handbag so you’re always prepared.
