Picture perfect!
Although as a wedding guest you are obviously not the center of attention, you do want to appear neatly coiffed and made up. That little bit extra is often appreciated at such a party. Make-up artists share their tips for the perfect wedding look.
Harmonious and fresh
Of course, it is an art to find the right balance between a fresh, yet elegant look that lasts throughout the ceremony and reception. “The ideal is radiant, illuminated from the skin, softly accentuated features and colors that work together in harmony,” says makeup artist Carolina Dalí. She herself has a go-to strategy when she is a guest at a wedding. “Leave the thick glitter and blue lipstick in the bag. Photos are taken that will be shared for generations, you don’t want your makeup to look dated. So keep it as harmonious and fresh as possible.”
But how do you get a makeup look that you can enjoy all day long? Makeup artists share their go-to tips!
Go shine
A natural glow starts with the right moisturizer. Choose one that helps soothe the skin and that you can wear under your makeup. To make it completely easy, there are moisturizers that also ensure that your skin stays hydrated and your makeup stays in place. When it comes to foundation, Dalí recommends using two different types of foundation so that you only shine in the right places. “Apply velvety, matte foundation to the center of the face, around the folds of the mouth, where your nose meets your cheeks and a little in the center of your forehead.” To make it shine a little more, she recommends applying a shiny foundation to the rest of the face and neck. And blend it together beautifully!
Tip: apply a setting powder to your T-zone and any other shiny areas so you don’t literally become the shining center of the wedding photos.
Contours and highlights
When it comes to contours, it’s always less is more at a wedding. “The goal is to gently define the features, not to mask or completely change them.” If you do reach for the contour stick, it is best to apply it under the cheekbones and along the jawline. Just a healthy blush on your cheeks and you are picture proof.
Prime and define the eyes
For a special day, it is of course great fun to deviate from your familiar make-up routine and choose eye shadow that you normally don’t wear. Just keep in mind that a photographer can capture you at any time of the day. Therefore, first start with a special primer for eye makeup and opt for an elegant look, such as a soft smokey eye or classic cat eye. If you prefer some color, shades such as bronze, peach, and earthy or pastel colors are always a good idea.
You can of course decide for yourself the mascara, although Dalí advises going for a waterproof version. “Just in case you get teary-eyed or dance for hours, you want your mascara to stay in place.”
Last but not least: what do you put on your lips?
A festive make-up look is of course nothing without some color on your lips, and that can be as subtle or bold as you want. If you want to be sure that you have color on your lips all day long, nothing is as bulletproof as a matte, liquid lipstick with a soft, powdery finish. For a shine you can still opt for a lip gloss, but here too the following applies: less is more.
In short, with these tips you can be sure that you have a flawless makeup look all day long!
