5 simple ways to support your mental health

Number 4 is especially important!

Maybe you are so busy every day that you sometimes miss yourself. No matter how busy you are, don’t forget to take care of your mental health. If you need help, you can contact a psychologist, but there are also more accessible ways to support your mental state.

Talk to someone

We just mentioned that psychologist, but you don’t have to immediately sound the alarm to a professional – although this can often really help in the end. There’s nothing wrong with starting small. Talk about your feelings with someone you trust and with whom you dare to be vulnerable. A candid face-to-face conversation can do so much good for your mental health.

Do you find it difficult to talk to someone you know or do you notice that you would benefit from help? Then it may still be wise to seek out a professional. This person will support you in dealing with certain personal issues and provide you with feedback and validation.

Make a cup of tea or hot chocolate, get comfortable and read a book! Several studies have shown that stress symptoms decrease when you take the time to read. By reading you force your thoughts to focus on the story, so you don’t spend time on all the tasks or matters that concern you.

Take a walk

Just walking around the block is good for your heart and your mind. Don’t wait until it suits you best, but put a walk high on your to-do list. This allows you to take a moment to relax, because during a walk you cannot continue working, cleaning up or other tasks that you impose on yourself. Research also shows that a walk contributes to your self-confidence. People who regularly take a stroll around the block are less likely to be overweight and experience less stress.

Listen to music

Listening to your favorite music (genre) has a power-boosting effect on how you feel. Moreover, music can contribute to your productivity. Most of us will indeed agree that a workout, for example, is much better if you listen to the right uplifting music. And so, calm music can help you relax. See what works best for you and put your favorite songs on repeat.

Keep a diary

You probably kept a diary at some point in your life. Pick up this habit again and write down how you feel. By keeping track of important events in your life, it becomes easier to become aware of the feelings you experience about something. This also makes it easier to process these feelings in the right way.
