“Air. Water. Earth. Fire.” Anyone who has consciously experienced the zeros probably remembers the cartoon Avatar: The Legend of Aang. At the time it was a very popular series on Nickelodeon. But even now, Aang is still loved, as we can see from the 2010 film remake and the upcoming live-action series on Netflix. And if you’re not familiar with it, you’ll probably be excited by the just-released trailer.
Netflix is releasing a remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender
In 2005, the first episode of the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender (or Avatar: The Legend of Aang) was broadcast in the United States. In the series we follow main character Aang and his friends. They must defeat the Fire Lord so that the world can be saved. This world is divided into four nations, which are named after the four elements: water, earth, fire and air. Aang himself is a kind of referee, who ensures that all nations/elements remain in balance. Well, he learns that as the series progresses.
At the time, the cartoon Avatar was already extremely popular: not only with the public, but also with critics. People watched the cartoon en masse and even fell outside the target group of 6 to 11 years. It is not surprising that, after a film remake in 2010, there is now another remake. This time it is the streaming service Netflix, which has created a live-action series around Aang and his friends. And the just-released trailer certainly bodes well, possibly even for people who are not yet fans.
Trailer and release date
Actor Gordon Cormier, who plays Aang in the series remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender, thinks the live-action brings the original series back to life. “And hopefully it will bring a lot of new fans who have never heard of the series into this universe,” he said during the Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil. “For me that is quite exciting. I am a personal fan of the series and am just as enthusiastic about it as you are.” According to the actor, shaving his hair was a highlight during the filming. Of course he had to be completely bald for his role. He also thought it was special when he held his boomerang for the first time: “That was amazing.”
As mentioned, Netflix has now shared the trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender. And good news for fans: the release date is coming soon, on February 22, 2024. Ooh! Below you can watch the first images of the live-action remake:
