This makes getting up (early) during dark mornings easier

One of the hardest things about winter is having to get up early. And while it is very cold and very dark outside your blankets. Fortunately, the days are now getting a bit longer, but getting up early in these conditions is still no fun. Unfortunately we can’t make it more fun, but we can make it easier!

Tips for getting up early in winter

Morning person or not, no one likes to even get out of bed when it’s -10 degrees outside. Getting out of bed becomes very difficult in winter for both morning people and evening people. Fortunately, we are ready with a number of tips that will make these cold and dark mornings a little easier.

1. Let there be light

One of the biggest things people miss when it’s winter is natural light! When you leave home in the dark and come back in the dark, your body seems to go into a real depression. We need light in our lives, so it is also very important to allow as much natural light as possible to reach your body. Now it’s still dark at 6 or 7 in the morning, so that’s not going to happen. Therefore, invest in a so-called wake-up light. This lamp simulates the sunrise and turns on while you are still sleeping (i.e. before your alarm goes off). This causes you to wake up in a ‘natural’ way. How smart?

2. Don’t hit snooze

It may not be your most ideal tip, but it works. Not hitting snooze is crucial to starting a good morning. And you know: a good start is half the battle. After clicking the snooze button, your body enters a new sleep cycle and it takes a lot of effort and energy to get out of it. Plus it’s dark and cold… All in all, it’s not very conducive to a fit you, right?

3. Drink warm water

There is a good chance that you are still very tired after getting up, so there is also a good chance that you will reach for those two cups of coffee with extra caffeine. It will work in the short term, but it won’t make your body very happy. Our tip is to drink one or two glasses of warm water in the morning (does not have to be boiled, but is allowed). This will start your body in a healthy way and it will also warm you up. Win win!

4. Morning routines

In the summer you may have a wonderful morning routine in which you may already achieve half of your daily goals. In winter, the cold and darkness are a lot less motivating, but a routine is still just as important. Therefore, compromise with yourself. Instead of staying in bed until the last minute, you can also stay warm in bed and read a book or do a word puzzle. This will wake you up nicely and your body will thank you for it later in the day.
