Hunger, we all have it sometimes. But sometimes your eyes are bigger than your stomach, and did you know that that’s a different kind of hunger? These are the different types.
Lots of food
You can find food everywhere you look: on the road, at home, at work, and so on. We can’t escape it, and that’s why we sometimes crave food even though we don’t really have it. You should therefore know that there are different types of appetite. After reading this article you can ask yourself: ‘am I really hungry or do I need something else?’
Types of hunger
So there are different types, seven to be precise. This includes every strain and here’s what you can do to stop it:
- Physical: The most well-known form simply means that you really have to eat something. It builds up slowly and then disappears again after you have eaten something. You don’t have to do anything about this, except eat (duh).
- Emotional: This doesn’t take place in your stomach, but in your head. Your brain looks for some kind of distraction from what you are feeling, whether it is loneliness, stress or sadness. You probably know it: you’re coming out of a break-up and you’re craving ice cream or chocolate. That’s not because you really feel like it, but to ease the suffering a little.
- Habit: This happens when you arrive at a time of day when you would normally eat, such as breakfast, lunch or dinner. Ask yourself: do I really want to eat or is it just out of habit?
- Boredom: Even when you are bored, you like to look for distraction. You’re looking for something to fill the void, and food is a very easy solution. Think carefully before you start snacking, because you can also do other very fun things.
- False appetite: It seems like you need to eat, but you’re actually just thirsty. Therefore, try to drink something first, such as a glass of water or another drink. Wait a little longer and your hunger will most likely be gone.
- Eye hunger: Sometimes your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Or you see others eating and your stomach also starts growling. You didn’t have any problems before, but because you see it you want it anyway. Decide if it’s worth it and choose wisely.
- Nose hunger: This is not seeing the food, but smelling it. Some dishes just have a wonderful smell, and then you immediately get hungry. For example, think of walking past the bakery on an empty stomach: this increases your appetite and you will probably go in to get a sandwich (or pastry).
