Princess Kate is slowly but surely making more public appearances. This weekend, she appeared in the Scottish Highlands, where she left for a church service at Balmoral with her husband, Prince William, and her parents-in-law.
For over half a year, the Princess of Wales was not seen in public, because she is being treated for a certain form of cancer. Fortunately, Princess Kate has been doing somewhat better recently, and she occasionally makes an appearance at various royal events. It turns out that the Crown Prince family is now, for the first time since her diagnosis, a considerable distance from their familiar Adelaide Cottage.

It has been a regular fixture for the Windsors for decades: Buckingham Palace is the official residence, winters are spent at Sandringham, and in summers they escape the heat in the Scottish Highlands.
At Balmoral there is plenty of peace, space, and rugged nature to completely come to yourself, and the British royals can certainly use that after this tumultuous year. It is therefore not surprising that King Charles and Queen Camilla are happily staying in Scotland with various family members, including Prince William and Princess Kate!
Church service
Yesterday, several photos emerged of the Windsors on their way to Crathie Kirk. This small church in the village of Crathie has been visited by the British royals on Sundays for many years when they stay at Balmoral.

Snapshots show the party also includes Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie and their son, James, and Sir Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband.
Scottish style
Although the snaps don’t show much of the highnesses, royal fashion experts have of course already figured out exactly what kind of outfit Princess Kate was wearing. For example, the Crown Princess is said to be wearing her Holland Cooper trench coat with a hunting hat by Hicks & Brown – both items that have been hanging in her wardrobe for a while. A bit autumnal perhaps, but oh well. We all know how stormy the weather in the United Kingdom can be, don’t we?
A striking detail is that Charles seems to be the only gentleman in the party who has chosen to wear a traditional kilt as part of his outfit. We know that the king is a big fan of Scottish dress, but he just can’t seem to infect his brothers, nephews and sons with his enthusiasm. Oh well, summer isn’t over yet – who knows what kilts we’ll see next!
