Nowadays, more and more people are undergoing filler treatment. Some people have a few millimeters added, others prefer to let them dissolve. Shaunna (24) preferred the latter, but despite thinking she would get rid of her plump lips, the opposite happened. She had an extreme reaction from the filler solution, which left her unable to breathe and feeling like she was dying.
Filler treatment
Shauna Harris had already had her lips sprayed several times. However, in the long run she no longer liked the result, so she decided to have the lip fillers dissolved. When she went to her treatment and the solution was injected, she had a very severe reaction shortly afterwards. Instead of becoming smaller, her lips became twice as thick and large. How did this happen? She was apparently allergic to the liquid injected into her lips. Not only did her lips widen in response, but hives also appeared on her face. What a nightmare!
“I was gasping for breath”
For Shaunna, this allergic reaction was nearly fatal. “I really thought I was dying. My throat swelled and I couldn’t breathe. I gasped.” In various photos and videos we see that Shaunna has an unrecognizable face compared to what she looked like before. She therefore had to rush to the emergency room to get an adrenaline pump against the allergic reaction. On the drive to the hospital, Shaunna thought she wouldn’t make it to the finish line.

The practitioner saw no harm
As we already reported, it wasn’t the first time Shaunna had something done to her walk. When she was 18 and 22, she had 1ml fillers injected into her lips. These lip fillers had moved, so she wanted to have it resolved. When the solution was injected into her lips, she felt almost immediately that something was wrong. The practitioner said that it was completely normal for her lips to become somewhat thicker. The moment she saw the hives near her eyes, she knew: this was wrong. Within ten minutes her entire face swelled and she was unrecognizable.
Healed well
Once she arrived at the emergency room, she was helped immediately. After Shaunna received the adrenaline pump, she felt her airways open again and she was able to breathe again. Her face was still swollen for several days and she was afraid it would not go away. She did not leave her house for three days. The doctors said she was allergic to hyaluronidase; the substance that actually breaks down hyaluronic acid.
Shaunna never expected this to happen to her, because she had never had a reaction to the ‘normal’ fillers. “Risking my life is absolutely not worth it.” She advises others: if there is an opportunity to test for an allergy to such a type of treatment, do so, then you know that something will not go wrong.
