We now know that the marriage between Prince Charles and Diana ended in anything but a fairytale. Yet the two were once – briefly – very happy with each other. But the beginning of the marriage between the two also had its ups and downs. Like the time Charles made his wife Diana burst into tears in public.
Very angry
Prince Charles and Princess Diana married in 1981. There was always jealousy on his part, which often caused arguments. Once, Charles even became so angry with his wife that he could only scream in anger and humiliation. It ended in a big cry and a very sad Diana.
Surprise
Diana wanted to become a professional dancer from an early age and practiced hard for it, but she eventually grew too tall to continue with it. Nevertheless, her love for dancing always remained and she thought it would be a nice idea to surprise her husband with this passion. That happened in December 1985, when they had been married for about four years, during a private Christmas gala.
Tears
Diana thought she had arranged a great Christmas present for her husband, but unfortunately the evening ended in tears. “She had secretly collaborated with a dancer to choreograph a surprise three-minute performance and chose the song Uptown Girl for it. Once on stage, everyone gasped when the princess suddenly appeared, but she danced like crazy and everyone was enthusiastic,” says dance partner Wayne Sleep. Bow
Wayne: “I joked to the princess: ‘By the way, you have to bow to the royal box’, to which Diana replied: ‘Haha, I’m not bowing to him, he’s my husband!’” Charles was clearly not happy with the surprise act from his wife. In fact, he shouted at Diana when they went home and accused her of humiliating him. That caused Diana to burst into tears and ruined the evening. The marriage lasted for years, but unfortunately the couple would never be as happy as before they said yes.
