To be lucky or to be happy, that is of course what we all want. A new term that has everything to do with this has gone completely viral on TikTok: the ‘lucky girl syndrome’. Knowing TikTok, this is of course not a real syndrome, but the meaning behind it is very interesting. Lucky girl syndrome, what is it? And does it really work?

What is the ‘lucky girl syndrome’
You’ve probably seen it on social media lately: lucky girl syndrome. But what exactly is it? In short, this term equates to thinking yourself happy. An improved version of the popular affirmations. This ‘syndrome’ actually causes you to manifest that you are happy. The teaching of this is, the more often you repeat it, the faster and more you attract it. If you think happier, you will become happier.
Does it really work?
Of course, the question remains whether this happiness remedy actually works. It is a term that mainly occurs in your head, so only you can make it happen for yourself. In any case, there are plenty of people on TikTok who indicate that the phenomenon has worked for them. But there’s another side to it too… Career coach Lisa Quinn told British Harpers Bazaar: “Depending on who you ask, it’s either an empowering practice that helps you make your dreams come true by repeating daily affirmations, or “It’s a non-inclusive practice and toxic social media trend where rich white girls don’t check their own privilege.” Hmm…
Even though it is ‘just’ a social media trend, it can help many people to think more positively about their lives. And a little positivity can’t hurt, right? According to Lisa Quinn, this is also the reason for the great popularity of the term. She says that our brains have been focusing more on negativity for centuries and that many people want to be challenged in this. “It’s very powerful to feel like you’re in charge of your own destiny.”
Law of Attraction
The lucky girl syndrome has a lot to do with manifesting, affirmations, but also with the Law of Attraction. If you really believe certain things, it will come to you. However, you have to be careful not to become lazy. Positive thinking does not pay the bills or ensure that you have food on the table. Thinking yourself happy is very nice, but you still have to take action for what you want.
