Most of us take a nice shower every day. Whether in the morning or evening, freshening up your body with shower gel and washing your hair with shampoo is completely normal for us. We can’t imagine not showering for a few weeks. Yet this is reality for Jessy, who lives in a camper.
Not showered for five weeks
Jessy, a digital nomad who travels around in a camper, has an Instagram account with about 195K followers. Here she shares everything she experiences in her life as a nomad. She shows her life and shares tips. She does not leave anything out, because she also shares that she has not showered in five weeks. Why, we hear you think. She travels in a camper. There is a mini shower in here, but you guessed it: it doesn’t work. Or at least, the hot water doesn’t work. Because she is traveling, she also wants to save as much money as possible. Normally she showers at a service station, but because she drives a lot, they are not always nearby. So she hasn’t had a shower for five weeks.

First shower
But, after five weeks, the time has finally come. She takes a shower at the service station. Here she pays 17 dollars for a shower and she takes advantage of it. She shares this on her Instagram in a mini vlog. She buys a ‘code’ that allows you to use a shower room. The room has a shower cabin, a toilet and a sink with mirror. At the end of her mini vlog we see her fresh and fruity and completely clean again. After five weeks she washed her body and hair. She says it was worth every dollar.

She receives a lot of reactions under her mini vlog. Both positive and negative reactions are pouring in. She receives many supportive messages from other nomads who have experienced a similar situation. Others even reported that their hair and skin were in much better condition after not showering for so long. Her followers share that they felt like they were washing off the good bacteria.
Yet Jessy also received negative reactions. “Not showering for five weeks, that’s disgusting!” But those negative reactions don’t bother Jessy, because by sharing this blog she has gained about 8,000 extra followers on her blog. Jessy even decided that she waited even longer before her next shower, at least six weeks. But, unfortunately, this shower was a bit disappointing. It was a freezing cold shower and she heard someone constantly flushing the toilet. So she couldn’t call this a real shower.
Jessy shares in another video that she doesn’t go without hygiene day in and day out. She occasionally washes herself with a cloth and cold water in places that really need it during the day. That’s such a nice idea.
