Gordon opens up in Casa Di Beau about ‘blackest year of his life’: “Patrick saved me”

After a successful season of Casa Di Beau, presenter Beau van Erven Dorens has now created a special winter special. And the new TV program starts off well with an episode. For example, Gordon (55) is very candid about the ‘blackest year of his life’, in which the marriage with ex Gavin was over overnight. Gordon fell into such a deep valley that he was almost no longer there…

Gordon in Casa Di Beau Winter Special

In the special winter special of Casa Di Beau, presenter Beau van Erven Dorens looks back on the past year with various notable celebrities. In the first episode we see Gordon, who, as many know, has had a dramatic year. Nowadays the singer, presenter, catering owner and interior designer lives in Dubai with his two dogs, but he regularly returns to the Netherlands for work. So he still has a successful coffee shop in Amsterdam and of course some TV work every now and then. However, he was mainly in the media in 2023 due to the breakup with his Australian ex Gavin. Gordon and Gavin were very happy in no time and even wanted to get married. However, the wedding was suddenly called off, breaking Gordon’s heart again. He even came to the abyss, as he candidly explains in Casa Di Beau.

Schrizophrenia

During an intimate conversation with Beau, Gordon talks about the ‘blackest year of his life’, as he calls it. As mentioned, Gordon and Gavin quickly fell in love with each other. They also joked about getting married from day one. Possibly a lot of people thought that Gavin stayed with Gordon mainly for the money. Although, according to Gordon, Gavin almost always used his own money. According to the singer, he did not continuously live on his money. So the relationship went well and Gordon never knew anything about an impending breakup. “The only thing that worried me is that he had a brother who was schizophrenic,” he says. Gavin found his brother dead in the bathroom at the time, which was quite a traumatic event. “Then it occurred to me that schizophrenia is hereditary,” Gordon says. That could possibly explain why Gavin changed his mind about their marriage so quickly.

At some point there was silence on Gavin’s part. Gordon didn’t hear from him for days and that worried him. At one point Gavin indicated that things were not going well. “That’s all well and good,” Gordon then responded. “But you can also reach me if things are not right. Then I want to be there for you.” Unfortunately, Gavin turned out to have changed. He seemed like a completely different person as soon as Gordon saw his ex again after a long time. He still flew over to Melbourne from Gavin, but the relationship was really over. “I held his hand in the street and I didn’t feel anything anymore. It was completely gone,” Gordon said.

Suicide attempts

So Gordon and Gavin’s wedding was called off overnight. Then the greatest love drama of Gordon’s life arose. After the break with Gavin, personal telephone conversations leaked through the weekly magazine Privé, because Gordon had revealed them to his ex. Gordon was furious about this at the time. It affected him so much that he even attempted suicide twice. Fortunately, he received a lot of support from his other ex and best friend Patrick, with whom he still lives. “Patrick saved me,” Gordon says, referring to his suicide attempt. “He literally jumped on top of me,” he explains. Patrick then monitored him for weeks until things slowly improved.

Although the breakup with Gavin was already intense, Gordon found the leaking of the telephone conversations even worse. According to Gordon, the editor-in-chief knew about Gordon’s suicide attempt. He has one important message for the editor-in-chief: “Shame on you. Shame on you.”

Many dreams and ambitions

The tide has now turned again in Gordon’s life. Not only Patrick was a huge support. His grand 55th birthday also helped to pull himself out of the deep valley. Gordon realizes that a lot is his own fault. “I say a lot of things about myself,” he says. He doesn’t have to win everyone over either. If people still hate him, so be it. In the meantime, he still has many dreams, ambitions and ideas. And he still calls himself ‘quite young’, so who knows what will follow in the future… Maybe a final season of the popular reality program Geer & Goor? Gordon says he is open to a new season. “But then I want one more time and then never again,” said the singer. “I don’t know if our humor is still possible.”

He also hasn’t given up on love yet. “There’s probably another nice Gavin around somewhere…” he says, to which Beau responds: “Well, let’s hope it’s not a Gavin.” Um, right! Although one viewer gives a tip that he can give up the search for love:
