Imagine: one moment you’re just chilling and the next your whole life collapses like a house of cards. That’s what happened to Max Vieleers, Yvonne Coldeweijer’s boyfriend, last week. Due to an inflammation in his spinal cord, he suddenly became paralyzed from his chest to his toes. Intense!
Life upside down
Max himself writes on Instagram that his life has been turned completely upside down. In the hospital, after all kinds of tests, they discovered that there is an inflammation in his spinal cord. But what is causing this? No idea yet, so more tests are needed. “Suddenly I was paralyzed from my chest to my toes. How?”, writes Max Vieleers, shocked.
Yvonne Coldeweijer experiences worst nightmare
For Yvonne it is of course also a real shock that her boyfriend is suddenly paralyzed. In December she had a child with Max and now this… She calls it her “worst nightmare”, but fortunately there are already signs of recovery. In a video on Instagram, Yvonne emotionally tells her story. “It started very strangely, with very strange complaints for a few days. It started with: ‘Hey, I have a bit of tingling in my legs’ and it got worse and worse.” She describes how instead of a tingling he suddenly had a dull feeling. “Before we knew it, it seemed like his legs were failing.” The GP initially thought it was ‘a bit of stress’, but in the meantime it got ‘worse and worse’. “It feels like my skin is on fire, like someone wants to rip my skin off my body”, Coldeweijer quotes her boyfriend. Finally, last Wednesday it all went wrong. Before they even drove to the hospital, Max collapsed through his legs.
Good hands and first positive signals
Fortunately, Max is in good hands in the hospital and is being supported by his family. And guess what? He is already working very hard to recover and there are already some positive signs. So fingers crossed that things are going well!
What’s going to happen now?
It is still very exciting what exactly is going on and how Max will continue to recover. But one thing is certain: with his positive mindset, the support of Yvonne Coldeweijer and his family, and the good care in the hospital, Max will do everything he can to get over this.
