This way your silver locks will really come into their own.
Younger girls with blonde hair are going en masse for an ash-colored haircut, because gray is now generally perceived as chic. But if you let your natural gray color show through, it can take some getting used to. Maybe it’s time to change your makeup routine to suit your new look. A little change in your routine won’t hurt, nun?
The base
It’s normal for your skin to go through changes over the years – from acne to age spots and from clogged pores to fine lines. Although our first instinct may be to want to cover and camouflage this, it is actually better to use just a little concealer and/or foundation. Try mixing a few drops of liquid highlighter with a light to medium coverage foundation. Thinning out your base this way will give you a brightening effect. It is therefore less heavy and will therefore be less likely to settle into the lines.
Eyebrows
Eyebrows enhance your facial expressions. With lighter, gray eyebrows, you can also look a bit duller. To sharpen your eyebrows a bit, you can use an eyebrow pencil. It is best to choose a color that best matches the color of your natural roots before you went gray. A dark taupe color is often a safe bet. By using an eyebrow brush you create a softer effect.
Blushes
Skipping a bush can also cause dullness. Brighten yourself up with a blush on the apples of your cheeks or place it slightly higher for a lifted effect. For fine lines, a creamier formula is preferred instead of a powder, which is less likely to penetrate into the fine lines.
Apple of my eye
Make your colored eyes stand out. You can use an eyeliner or eye pencil, but an eye shadow for a more striking effect can also do no harm every now and then. Do you think black looks too intense? Then you can go for a brown mascara or eyeliner, a blue color wouldn’t look out of place either! Choose a warmer, matte eyeshadow instead of a cool, shiny one.
Lips
Neutral colors tend to fade into insignificance when you have gray hair. Instead, go for bolder shades like a berry or peach color. If you are not a fan of the bright colors, you can also use a gloss. Shiny lip gloss has the same effect.
Finishing touches
And as for powdering, “Unless you have really oily skin, stick to applying it to the T-zone only,” advises Robert Sesnek, a celebrity makeup artist. Powder can also penetrate into the fine lines and you naturally want to prevent that. You can also use a setting spray to keep the makeup in place; a matte version also prevents shine during the day. If you want to use a powder, make sure that the powder does not contain talc. Talc can absorb moisture and make the skin look dry, ouch!
