With a sweet anecdote about Bea as a big sister!
Although she is less visible these days, Princess Beatrix remains as popular as ever. Today a special childhood photo of the former queen with her mother and sisters surfaced via social media.

Today, the Royal Yacht Piet Hein shared a sweet photo from the archives via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

When you visit Friesland, you better do it in style. And what could be better than viewing the northern province from the water? According to the caption, Princesses Juliana, Beatrix, Irene, and Marijke would be amazed here in 1947 – although little Marijke was only a few months old at the time and so we guess that the little girl on the left is her sister, Princess Margriet.
Grand welcome
The ship was presented as a wedding gift to Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard in 1937, and they have gratefully used their home on the water several times over the years.
During their visit to Friesland in 1947, according to an edition of the Nieuwsblad van het Noorden at the time, they first enjoyed ‘a tea at the Town Hall’, and then the princely family left with the Piet Hein towards the town of Grouw. “At 5 o’clock the ‘Piet Hein’ sailed out of the city, waved by a thousand-strong crowd,” said the newspaper of August 1, 1947.
The Deventer Dagblad reports an even sweeter anecdote: “Princess Juliana went on deck with the youngest Princess, Marijke, who had completely recovered from her eye surgery. Beatrix, concerned for her sister, immediately took a white coat from the cabin and assisted her mother when Marijke put on the jacket.” Awww!
Beatrice
Although Princess Beatrix is not in the spotlight very often these days, she will soon be seen side by side with daughter-in-law Mabel in The Hague. The presentation of the Prince Friso Engineering Award will then take place at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. A fun outing for the princess!
