The shocking investigation into misconduct at the NPO still resonates. The investigation puts presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, who was responsible for, among other things, transgressive behavior in a bad light. As a result, Matthijs and his new employer RTL have now decided that their collaboration will be postponed for the time being.

Many people have already had questions about the new collaboration between RTL and presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Even before the investigation into misconduct at the NPO came to light, he received his new contract with RTL. At the time, RTL thought that Matthijs was ready for a return to TV. The investigation by the Investigative Committee on Behavior and Culture of Broadcasting (OGCO) was as good as completed and those involved had been heard. However, the conclusions of the investigation had not yet been announced.

We now know that the situation at the NPO in recent years was even worse than people thought. And once again, Matthijs in particular receives negative media attention, partly due to later revelations by former colleague Suzanne Kunzeler. She claims that Matthijs has not only exhibited inappropriate behavior verbally, but also physically. He himself denies the claims and calls it “shocking” that his former colleague makes these kinds of statements without substantiation.
In any case, Matthijs’ reputation does not appear to have improved yet. That is why RTL and Matthijs have decided in consultation that the collaboration will be postponed. “We thought Matthijs could make a new start this spring,” RTL director Peter van der Vorst said in a statement. However, the “timing appears to have been misjudged”. “This is not the time for Matthijs to return to TV,” said Peter.
By postponing the collaboration, RTL hopes to create more peace. At the moment everyone is still discussing too much about the misconduct of Matthijs, among others. This means it is still too sensitive.
