Was it all just tactics? In her New Year’s speech, Queen Margrethe of Denmark (83) announced that she would abdicate as monarch after 52 years on the throne. His successor will be her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik (55), whose private life has been in the headlines in recent weeks – he is said to have cheated on his wife Princess Mary (51). Glamial asked a royal expert and wanted to know: Is Margrethe handing over the reins to her son to distract from the scandal?
Jürgen Worlitz makes it clear to Glamial that the abdication has absolutely nothing to do with the rumors: “An indomitable and strong woman like that queen Margrethe would never sacrifice herself to correct her son’s immoral behavior.” He also explains that Margrethe would not reward her son’s misstep. “Besides, I can’t imagine that a high-ranking man like Frederik would ruin his marriage through stupidity and drive Jürgen concludes.
On January 14th the time has come: Frederik and Mary become king and queen crowned. Unlike King Charles (75), there will be no pompous ceremony. People reports that the incumbent prime minister will only name Frederik king from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace.
