If you’ve been on the skincare side of TikTok lately, you’ve probably come across rice water. This ingredient has been an essential part of the skincare routine in many Asian countries for years. In the Western world we have finally figured it out! Here’s what you need to know about rice water for your skin.
What is rice water?
What rice water is is pretty self-explanatory. It is water that you have soaked rice in. Doing this releases various components of the rice into the water, including starch, various vitamins and antioxidants. Rice water is used as a toner in your skincare routine.
The benefits of rice water
Rice water has been a popular ingredient for a long time and we completely understand why. It has many advantages. The antioxidants in rice water protect your skin well against external damage, such as UV damage. We still recommend that you continue using SPF, but rice water can certainly help. Furthermore, it has an anti-aging effect, is very moisturizing and can relieve irritation. Finally, it can also help resolve pigment spots. Rice water can be used safely by almost anyone, the only exception is for people with an allergy to this ingredient. Furthermore, this ingredient is best for people with normal to oily skin. The ingredient can make dry skin feel drier.
This is how you use it
Rice water is best used as a toner. You therefore use it after cleaning the face. You can use the product both in the morning and in the evening. To keep your skin well hydrated, we recommend following the rice water with a moisturizing cream or serum.
You can easily make rice water yourself. You do this by soaking rice in water. Just be careful not to make too much rice water at once, as you cannot store it for long. We recommend adding four times as much water as rice. Then let it soak for half an hour to an hour. Now you can remove the rice from the water and pour the water into a bottle. Now it is immediately ready to use as a toner. You can then cook the rice to eat, because we obviously don’t waste food! Not a fan of making your own rice water? There are also plenty of skincare products on the market that contain the ingredient.
