This is what you didn’t know about the Princess of Wales!
Kate Middleton: she is the epitome of elegance, mother of, among others, the Crown Prince of Great Britain and has been one of the most popular royals in the British Empire for years. Although we sometimes think we know everything about her, there are still plenty of things we don’t know about the Princess of Wales!
1. Jordan
Kate was born in the town of Reading in England. But what not many people know is that she also lived in another place in the world. Her father’s work at British Airways forced the family to move to Jordan. The Middletons lived there for over two years and the Princess of Wales attended nursery school there!
2. Nickname
Kate revealed to British magazine The Mirror that she has a matching nickname with her sister Pippa Middelton. Her sister was nicknamed Pip and Kate was nicknamed Squeak. Together they were Pip and Squeak as in the children’s book Pip & Squeak of the same name.
3. Duke of Edinburgh award
When Kate went to Marlborough College, she entered the Duke of Edinburgh Award. This is a youth development program founded by none other than future grandfather-in-law Prince Philip.
4. Sports record
We all know that Kate is sporty. But did you also know that there is a record in her name? During her primary school years at St. Andrew’s School, she competed in an athletics event where she set a record time. According to the British magazine The Mirror, her record still stands! So it’s absolutely no surprise that sporty Kate feels so comfortable at athletic events.
5. Gap year
After Miss Middleton graduated from Marlborough College in 2000, she took a gap year. She studied in Florence, traveled to Chile, did volunteer work and was part of the crew of a rowing competition. One thing is certain: Kate didn’t sit still!
6. Part-time job
Believe it or not, the Princess of Wales has worked as a waitress! She did this in addition to her studies at university. However, Middleton was not good at serving: “I was terrible,” she says in The Great Baking Show.
7. Rowing
In April 2007, Kate and William briefly separated. During this break-up, Kate joined The Sisterhood, an all-women dragon boat team who train intensively to win against a men’s team. Two weeks before the race she unfortunately had to withdraw due to safety reasons, according to the BBC.
8. Poster
Hubby Prince William was for a while the most coveted bachelor in England. Rumors then went around that Kate had a poster of William hanging in her room before they started dating. In an interview with Tom Bradby, Kate debunks this gossip: “That’s what he wanted!” she laughs.
9. Makeup
When it comes to a princess, we quickly think that a very glam team of make-up artists is called in to ensure that Kate looks her best. Especially at her own wedding. But nothing could be further from the truth, because Kate simply did her own make-up for her big day. How normal she has remained!
10. Baking
Moreover, Kate bakes the birthday cakes for her children herself. “I love making cakes. It has really become a kind of tradition,” she tells Hello!. And of course nothing beats a homemade royal cake!
