The Spanish queen is not having an easy time.
Queen Letizia is of course known as a true fashion queen who is not afraid to take risks in fashion. Her decision to hang up her high heels had an unpleasant medical reason. Although the queen seemed to be doing a lot better in the past period, it turned out yesterday that this injury was playing tricks on her again.
Injury
During the festive state banquet during Felipe and Letizia’s visit to our own Oranjes, it already caused some raised eyebrows: the stately reception, which is averse to protocols, was done by the Spanish queen with a chair. In the – nevertheless beautiful – portrait photos of the royal company, Leti was also captured sitting.
The Spanish daily El Mundo reported at the time that the queen was suffering from a serious injury. She was said to have chronic metatarsalgia in both feet, and a Morton’s neuroma in her right foot. That is why an extra chair was occasionally brought in for the queen, and she exchanged her sky-high stilettos for comfortable sneakers and cute sandals for a long time.
In recent times we have seen Leti slowly start to wear subtle block heels again (for her), and her injury seemed to be improving – until this week.
Seated reception
Traditionally, the Spanish royals spend their summers on the island of Mallorca – although daughters Leonor and SofÃa are currently cheering on the Spanish Olympic delegation in Paris. This naturally includes a royal reception for local celebrities, where Letizia was once again spotted in simple (yet stylish) sandals and a chair. Ouch!
If you can’t quite make head or tail of all the medical terms above, it boils down to Leti experiencing a lot of sharp pain in the balls of her feet, combined with a pinched nerve. These complaints are often related to – you guessed it – walking in heels too much. It’s most likely the reason that the queen, in addition to high pumps, also has a lot of chunky loafers, cute ballerinas and summer sandals in her closet.
Stylish as always
Anyway, as we mentioned, Letizia is of course an ever-elegant figure, who knows how to create a million-dollar look from budget brands. For the reception in Mallorca, the queen wore a cheerful dress by the Spanish label Maksu, with a pair of Sézane sandals. Bright, neat, and so comfortable for the queen.
Special detail: Before the reception, Leti quickly made grateful use of the gigantic fans on location. With temperatures well above thirty degrees, sweaty hands are almost guaranteed, but that is of course not very glam. Fortunately, the queen was able to cool her hands at the last minute!
Hopefully the members of the Spanish Casa Real can enjoy each other’s company and all the beauty that Mallorca has to offer in the coming weeks. We are patiently waiting for the pictures.
