Save energy by cooking your pasta this way

Pasta is a delicious dish that you can serve straight away, and that’s why we like to make it. But did you know that you can save energy if you cook it this way?

Cooking pasta saves energy

As normal, the process starts with boiling water in a pan. That’s nothing crazy. It is important that you immediately put the lid on the pan when you turn on the fire. This way, the boiling water cannot evaporate, so you don’t waste water. As soon as the water boils, add the pasta to the pan and cook for two minutes. When the two minutes are up, turn off the gas. It is important that you leave the lid on the pan and the pan still on the extinguished fire. Usually you cook pasta according to the package for about ten minutes, but because the heat is now off, add an extra two minutes. Until then, leave the pasta in the pan with the lid on and drain it after the period has passed (and don’t forget to save a cup for the sauce!). Once this is done, the perfect pasta is ready.

Environment and money

This saves energy and money because you only have the fire on for two minutes. The pasta cooked for the remaining ten minutes without using gas or electricity, so it is extra beneficial for your wallet and the environment. The water temperature will drop slowly since the fire is off, but those extra two minutes will still allow the pasta to become al dente. And you can save up to 47 percent in energy, that’s almost half! You also save as much as eight minutes of gas when you cook on a gas stove, which will reduce carbon emissions by no less than eighty percent. Every little bit helps, and in the long run (or if you just eat it all day every day) you will certainly notice something. It is also not difficult at all to turn off the heat and turn on a timer: you don’t have to do anything else before it is time to drain. Moral of the story: it saves energy, gas, money and you hardly have to do anything. Only advantages: count your profit!
