Heat and haute couture: this is how Máxima’s day two went in the Philippines

Business as usual for Máxima, but in about forty degrees.

While Queen Máxima floated around on a boat among the fishing community in a floral, airy dress on day one of her visit to the Philippines, on day two she appeared in a business outfit next to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the presidential palace. The life of a Majesty is one of many contrasts.

Financial inclusion

Financial inclusion and financial health are central during our Queen’s visit to the Philippines. The financial health in the country leaves much to be desired, partly because the enormous island group has poor access to financial services and services. This makes it difficult, especially for people with low incomes, to access these resources. For example, only 51.4 percent of the adult population has a bank account. Máxima therefore discussed the various development options for the country for her work for the United Nations.

Day two

On day two of the visit, a business meeting with development partners on financial inclusion in the Philippines was on the agenda. Máxima also discussed developments and innovations in the country’s financial sector with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the presidential palace.

She recycled a design from the Belgian fashion house Natan, which has been in her closet since 2013 and is a favorite for UN visits. The set consists of a white peplum top and a pink pencil skirt.

Fourty degrees

It must have been quite a challenge for the queen to move from place to place in the tight fit. The Philippines is being hit hard by climate change and during her visit, Máxima herself also experienced extreme weather conditions. It is currently around forty degrees! “It’s quite warm, but I really try to focus and wave a fan or paper every now and then,” she said. However, your highness no longer has to wait for long, because today she lands again on Dutch soil.
